The following represents the most frequently asked questions associated with Shell Rotella SuperRigs. If you have additional questions not listed, please reach out to site organizers.
General event information

Is there a cost to enter or participate in the contest?
No. The Shell Rotella SuperRigs® event is free of charge. However, only those trucks that comply with the eligibility rules are eligible to compete. (See the Truck Beauty Contest Official Rules for details)

What types of trucks are eligible to enter the Shell Rotella SuperRigs® truck beauty contest?
Any truck that complies with the Official Contest Rules may participate in the Shell Rotella SuperRigs® truck contest. (See the Truck Beauty Contest Official Rules for details)

May I order or pick up more than one contestant badge?
The person listed on the entry form and showing the truck will receive a contestant badge with his or her name printed. In addition, Shell, at its discretion, may issue an additional badge for team drivers (couples) or where the driver and owner are not one and the same, and present.
CONTESTANT CATEGORY INFORMATION

How old does my truck need to be to enter the Classic category?
To be eligible to enter the Classic category your truck must be 15 years or older with a minimum of 85,000 miles driven per year.

My tractor meets the requirements of 15 years old or older, criteria to quality for the Classic Category, yet I would like to include my trailer which is newer than 15 years. How will it be judged?
The Classic category is based primarily on the Tractor. There is no actual category for the trailer. If the truck/trailer had a “classic connection”, then it would be judged as such.

How do I enter the Best Lights contest?
When registering, ensure you check the “Best Lights” box under the optional categories section on the entry form as you will not be automatically entered if the box is left unchecked. How do I enter the Best Theme, Engine, Interior and/or Chrome categories?
These entries are optional, and you may choose to enter as many of the optional categories as you like. When registering, be sure to check the appropriate box(es) under the optional categories section on the entry form as you will not be automatically entered if the box(es) are left unchecked and will therefore not be judged for those categories.

I have a Non-Working or Show Truck; can I still participate in the Truck Beauty Contest?
Yes. However, Non-Working or Show Trucks are only eligible to compete in the Non-Working Trucks (Show Truck) Category. The Show Truck category is judged on the following criteria: on the appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship. Check the Official Contest Rules and Award Category Descriptions for additional details.

How is the People’s Choice Awarded?
Contestants and spectators may register their vote for the People’s Choice award on-line. View the trucks online at [insert website] then cast their vote on the truck that they like best. Voters will be allowed to vote 1 time per day during the voting period.
Contestants and visitors at the Shell Rotella SuperRigs® event will walk around the event grounds to view all participating trucks, jotting down the number in the front windshield of their personal favorite. When ready, they simply visit People’s Choice to vote for their favorite truck.
Ballots will be tallied and the truck number with the most votes will be the People’s Choice winner. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided based on the individual with the highest rating as scored by the event judges.

How is the Most Hardworking Trucker award decided?
Contestants wishing to participate must complete and submit an essay during registration describing their personal story about how hard they work and/or challenges they’ve faced while on the road. Contestant stories will be evaluated and rated on levels of: challenging situation/environment, uniqueness and originality.
Stories may be verified. A panel of Shell Rotella SuperRigs® staff will select the top-rated story. Winner will be announced Saturday, June 1 during the SuperRigs awards ceremony. One contestant will be the recipient of the Most Hardworking Trucker award.

Can I “show” my truck even if it’s not a big rig?
All trucks are welcome to join in the Event. However, if do you not meet the Official Contest Rules requirements, you may not participate in the actual Truck Beauty Contest nor in any of the associated activities officially earmarked for the contestants.

Judging

When do I need to be judged?
All trucks wishing to compete in the 2022 Shell Rotella SuperRigs® event must register and meet all the requirements stated in the Official Contest Rules. During registration, you will select a time window for your truck to be judged.

When does judging take place?
Trucks must physically pull up to the judging line to be judged during your specific judging window during the following hours:
Thursday, June 9 - 7:30am-5:00pm (CST)
Friday, June 10 - 7:30am-5:00pm (CST)
Saturday, June 11 - 7:30am-11:30am (CST)
The only exception is judging for the Best Lights category. More details to come on day and time of the Light Judging.

What is the judging criteria?
A panel of four judges will score each rig based upon the following criteria: appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship. Best Engine and Best Interior, will be judged on physical appearance only, with the exception of People’s Choice which will be determined by popular vote.
Please note - the scores received by any contestant is a subjective assessment and determined solely on the judge’s personal evaluations of that truck based on the appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship compared to other trucks competing in the same category(ies).

Who judges my truck?
A variety of people who have background in the trucking industry – driving, publications, media. See the ‘Meet the Judges’ section for details about each judge.

Do I need to be present to win?
No. If you are not present during the awards ceremony, a Shell Rotella SuperRigs® contest representative will be in contact to advise and congratulate you on your prize. Therefore, it is important that the correct contact information is completed on your entry form. Please see official rules for full details on eligibility.
SuperRigs Calendar

How are trucks chosen to be featured in the calendar?
Trucks are chosen at the discretion of Shell. Judges are not involved in the selection process. Shell representatives base their selection criteria on a variety of factors including: appearance, originality, driver’s story, etc. Only working trucks which use Shell Rotella are eligible to be featured in the SuperRigs calendar.

If chosen, what should I expect?
If chosen, the driver must be available at the prescribed time(s) provided by the photographer. Exact time(s) will be provided at the time the driver is approached by the photographer and will take place at some point prior to, or throughout the duration of the SuperRigs event. The driver must not disclose that they have been chosen for the calendar; as the calendar selections are announced at a later date by Shell.

Am I guaranteed a place in the Shell Rotella SuperRigs® calendar if I win any of the categories in the Shell Rotella SuperRigs® truck contest?
Only the ‘Best of Show’ winner is guaranteed a spot in the Shell Rotella SuperRigs® calendar.
